Symptoms of Head Lice
The symptoms of head lice are usually unmistakable. People who have head lice can’t escape the sensations they create as they move around. It’s also easy to tell when someone else might have head lice.
The main symptoms of head lice are:
- Feeling the movement s of the lice as they crawl around in the hair.
- Irritable itching that can be caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the louse.
- Difficulty sleeping and the irritability that arises from it; head lice love the dark and so they become quite active at night while a person is trying to sleep. Hence, they can diminish the quality of a person’s sleep.
- Scabs and open sores left behind from scratching at the scalp while trying to relieve the sensation of the lice moving or the allergic reaction to the bites. The sores can also become infected with other types of bacteria found on a person’s scalp which causes them to itch.
Tell-Tale Signs of Lice
Someone, either or child or adult, constantly scratching their head is often a tell-tale sign that lice are present. Sometimes people will scratch to the point of creating sores and those sores create even more symptoms. For one thing, the sores can become infected and for another, as they are healing, they can start to itch.
For people that have head lice, the sensations they create moving around are quite irritating. It can feel like a tickle, but it is no laughing matter as the lice won’t stop unless you completely eradicate them. Though the lice are most active when they are in the dark, even throughout the day they will continue to move around. So, a person with head lice doesn’t get a moment’s peace from them and constantly wants to scratch the itching they create.
Official guidance is to treat the whole filmay as quite often the lice case can be present for several weeks before it is detected and so has usually spread among the household. However, as a head louse specialist, I use a detection comb on mine and my husbands hair and as we haven’t had lice I don’t treat us. I know exactly what I’m looking for and check my son’s hair daily! The most he’s ever had is 2 lice poor things, I feel a bit mean killing them off before they even get a filmay going! What you need is repeated treatments I tend to use Derbac M or Hedrin as the first treatment then go onto a combing regime for the next 2 weeks to clear out anyone who hatches afterwards. These days, combing is a must. You need a proper metal louse comb (a310) and put conditioner onto wet hair. Then keep combing and looking with every stroke to see what’s on the teeth.Done carefully, this combing can identify WHO is infected, meaning you only have to treat the infected people.Remember, if a school friend is infected you can try as hard as you like but you won’t clear your child’s head until their friends are clear too. My son got reinfected 3 times but we kept on combing and got rid in the end.
